I explored WSL 2 initially using only WSL 1, and was surprised by how much simpler it made running graphical apps. The installation process is now very straightforward. Microsoft has significantly improved the setup over recent years. I often recommend students use WSL for a Linux environment—it’s far more convenient than managing a VM or trying to get a POSIX toolchain working natively on Windows.
