I was familiar with Star Citizen before and understood it was a long-development project, usually thought of as a starfighter title. Learning about the recent $500 million fundraising indicates strong interest and promising future updates. I decided to watch some gameplay on YouTube and was impressed by how vast the universe feels. It feels like a blend of Mass Effect, Cyberpunk, and No Man's Sky, offering an expansive, interconnected world where you can explore freely. Inside your ship, you don’t just sit in a third-person view; you actually enter the cockpit and can navigate the interior. Unlike Mass Effect, you’re not restricted to a single vessel. The game offers many additional features beyond just flying. I’m amazed by its scale and potential. Recently, a YouTuber played it and found it surprisingly comfortable and engaging.

It has a lot of dedicated fans would be the nicest way to put it. It's been in perpetual alpha release forever at this point. Depends on your taste, I'd say. It's not really my cup of tea, since there's not that much to explore for now, really. You can get access for somewhere around $40. Otherwise they have "free fly" events every now and then. If you're curious, that would probably be the cheapest way to try it out. There's not that much game there for now. You have a few planets, a station and that's about it. There are some missions to play. The universe is supposed to be huge once everything is done, but it's not there yet. Flying ships does take some skill if you want to get into multiplayer battles, but otherwise imho it's not that difficult to pick up. To be fair, I haven't launched the game in forever since I first made an account, since development is (or was) really slow and there wasn't that much to keep me interested after a few hours. That and the game's performance was… very bad on my machine. It requires a pretty beefy machine and even than it can run very slow.

As basically the only game I am currently playing daily. I feel like I have some objective thoughts to add. For 40ish$ SC is an amazing thing to experience. Even if all you get out of it is that it's a "cool tech demo" As for if u can play it solo ya totally. However things will get pretty monotonous and boring probably pretty quickly. But idk mayb you really like space mining or looting bunkers on moons. As for the "get into it" well shit, that's where SC sufferes the most I think. The game just throws u in there, no tips or anything. New players struggle to even find where the space port is so they c an spown their ships. The game does have a good deal of bugs and some are more likely to cause people to rq. However every single bug has a workaround. So you are not only learning to play the game but also how to play around the bugs. Hit me up if u have more questions =)

I’ve just started playing the game, but here’s my take on it so far. Star Citizen feels like taking care of a dog that was once neglected—it can be entertaining and enjoyable, yet it has its quirks. It can be a bit unstable (the game isn’t perfect), and sometimes it might act unexpectedly (both the game and the dog). Like a dog, the game has the chance to turn into something amazing. However, unlike a dog, you can walk away without any issues. Some people recommend playing during the rare “free fly” times, which seems like the best approach. If you end up with a pledge package and don’t like it, don’t worry—refunds are quite flexible. The lowest pledge price is only $45, so missing the refund window shouldn’t be too big of a problem.

I don't have real-time information about upcoming pledge periods. You may want to check the official website or contact the relevant organization for the latest details.

You have the option to buy a pledge package whenever you wish. If you’re unsure about committing funds, consider participating in the free fly event—they just concluded recently, so timing might be tricky. It’s worth remembering that the only affordable pledge is the cheapest one. The game remains under development, and while they’re still fundraising (though not urgently), purchasing packages over $45 is essentially a significant contribution to a company that has already surpassed $500 million in raised funds.

I enjoy playing Star Citizen, especially the new ship pack for beginners—it's really solid. I always suggest Aurora since it offers space and a comfortable bed. The game is evolving rapidly and is currently in alpha, which means some bugs might appear. Still, the game has a lot of potential with just one star system and many pending tasks. If you prefer solo play, it can be a bit slow to complete everything, but groups make it easier to explore quickly. Keep in mind it's still an alpha and there are missing features, so a full release is expected in the future.

Development began in 2012... Ten years later it remains in Alpha I, which suggests it's overdue.

*subjective It's also on an older version of cryngine or however you spell it. They need to update it soon, which will set back development even further.
