I've been using the same Windows 10 version on my laptop for years after upgrading from Windows 8. Although it's not used as much as my desktop, it still feels like a fresh start could help. There seems to be no built-in hard reset option, and since I don't have the installation disc anymore, reinstalling feels necessary. Would a simple reset be preferable over a full reinstall?

Download Windows 10 installation media from the official site: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software.../windows10. Your license remains active for Windows 10, and it should auto-activate if your system uses a UEFI BIOS, as that’s where the key was originally saved during Windows 8.

Alternatively. However, if it's been over three years, I suggest beginning with a clean installation. You tend to build up a lot of unnecessary software and files that a factory reset doesn't eliminate.

It makes sense to perform a complete reinstall. You just need to understand the licensing requirements for doing it correctly.

I just did this on a laptop that moved from Windows 8 to Windows 10. It came with a pure Windows 10 ISO, not tied to any brand. When I selected the key and Home version during installation, it got activated automatically when I reached the desktop.

This reset function acts like a fresh start for your system. It will clear the existing operating system and install it again.

I utilized a fresh install image from Microsoft and started anew. Appreciate it!
