Considering your needs, I’d suggest checking out the 13600K, 7700X, and 5900X models. Each offers solid performance for gaming and streaming. Let me know if you want more details!
I recommend the 5800X3D, it should function on your motherboard after updating the BIOS. I’m not sure if you’re interested in swapping out your current motherboard or platform.
Yes, the Switchback form Intel is quite distinct from other platforms.
I skip the 5900X, it works well as a CPU but isn’t the top performer among the three. It lacks any real upgrade options, making it only sensible if you can snag it for under $50 less than the others. EDIT: I didn’t notice you already had an AM4 board. Keeping that board makes the 5900X the most logical choice here. Regarding 13600K versus 7700X, the difference is subtle. I’d find it tough to recommend a Raptor Lake CPU right now, the Raptor Lake refresh is coming soon (expected September) and promises significant improvements—especially a new IMC. The 7700X is slower but avoids hybrid design, so it should run steadier without Windows 11, and the system should have better upgrade potential. In practice, either would be fine, though I’d lean toward the 7700X for its efficiency and future-proofing. Edited June 24, 2023 by RONOTHAN##
They act almost identical. For regular tasks or games, they're indistinguishable.
You're already using an AM4 socket, so consider either the Ryzen 9 5900X or Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The 5800X3D matches the performance of the Ryzen 7 7700X and Core i5 13600K in gaming, and it's roughly 20% quicker than your existing CPU for all tasks. The Ryzen 9 5900X runs about 20-30% slower for games but delivers 30-40% better overall performance compared to the 5800X3D—though it falls short of the 13600K. Choose this path only if you stick with your current motherboard, as it saves money. If you prefer a full upgrade, skip AM4 entirely and opt for a new board instead. In 2023, a new AM4 card isn't worth it unless you're building on a tight budget.
