Preparing for a Ryzen upgrade from an i5-2400 Sandy Bridge. Keeping the Radon RX 570 series GPU. I need strong CPU compatibility and want to avoid bottlenecks. Should I opt for an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-core at 3.6 GHz or stick with the AMD Ryzen 3 3200G 3.6 GHz? Also, using the MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX AM4 board with Team T-FORCE VULCAN RAM (16 GB, 2 x 8 GB DDR4-3200 CL16). Budget around $300 for board, RAM, and CPU—willing to increase it if needed. 3400 is built around Zen+ instead of Zen2, aiming to keep performance smooth when using low settings on a 570 for COMP adjustments. It avoids locking out COMP settings like the 3400G does, while still delivering fast speeds. I opted for the Z2 3600 or Zen2 3300x for better performance, though 3400 works fine depending on your goals. If you need 100fps in MP titles, you can definitely lower settings if necessary.
The "Bold" mode might make your display harder to view. According to @TofuHaroto, a RX570 shouldn’t slow down an R5 3600x. If you’re just playing games, the Ryzen 3 3300X (with 4 cores/8 threads) would be more suitable because modern titles usually gain from more threads rather than extra cores. Just heavily overclock the 3300X and it should work fine. Isn’t 3200G a 4-core/4-thread APU?
Avoid forcing 3300x, but still secure a cooler to maintain boost clocks around 4.2+ while the stock one stays in the 4Ghz-4.1Ghz range
570 will cause a bottleneck with a 3600. The GPU lags behind the CPU in most games. 3300X is what you need, it should appear soon—perhaps within weeks. You won’t notice a big jump in performance, though there might be less stuttering; average FPS will stay similar.
