Works fully on 3070ti yet delivers very slow performance (just 14fps on dirt track)
Hello everyone! I bought a used Zotac Trinity OC RTX 3070 Ti at a reasonable price. Everything seemed fine when I got it—box clean, card pristine. After swapping my old 3060 Ti, I noticed some performance drops in certain titles like Minecraft RTX (57 average), GTA V (120fps average), Counter Strike 2 (180fps average). Some games just stopped working properly. Dirt 4 fell from 80fps to around 15fps on the start, Fortnite lagged more than before, and Control barely hit 30fps. I haven’t adjusted any settings since my previous card, which runs much smoother. My PC specs are: Intel i5 10400F with OEM fan, Dell OEM RTX 3060 Ti (swapped for the current RTX 3070 Ti), Corsair Vengeance 16GB RAM (2400MHz to 2667MHz with XMP), Asrock H510M-HDV/M.2 (resizable bar enabled), Kingston 480GB SSD, Seagate 2TB HHD, Seagate faster 500GB laptop HHD, Gigabyte P650B, and a generic Mars Gaming case. I ran the games at 1440p with most settings maxed out—similar to my 3060 Ti configuration. I’ve tried reseating cables and RAM, reinstalling drivers, rolling back firmware, tweaking MSI afterburner and Firestorm, but nothing much changed. Is this a known problem? Any advice would be appreciated. (Other than trying to return it, of course). Thanks! Here are a couple of screenshots:
The 3070 Ti offers a modest speed boost at first but consumes more energy overall. You'll need to verify this yourself. Monitor the card's clock speeds during games; any significant drops may indicate power or thermal constraints. If everything else checks out, it's possible your CPU might struggle to keep up.
I understand it's mainly a 20% improvement, and I'm confident the CPU won't create significant bottlenecks compared to the 3060 Ti with solid thermal performance. It seems like the issue might relate to the clock speed, as Firestorm suggests setting the GPU clock to 0 MHz. Are there any steps you could take to resolve that?
It seems the card isn't performing as expected. The 3070TI at full capacity should draw around 300W, not 120W. It might be an outdated mining card with a VBIOS that prioritizes VRAM power/clock settings, so consider reflashing it with the standard configuration.
VBIOS must show up in GPU-Z for comparison with the maker's specs. Based on your problems, I could update it anyway; otherwise the hardware might be damaged.
