So I just got my first 'k' cpu and planned to do some light overclocking. I’m thinking about getting an ASUS Z170M plus motherboard. My main concern is whether a stock cooler from a non-overclockable 1151 CPU will work for my i7-6700K. Honestly, it’s probably not enough. If you need something better, I’d look into a low-profile, budget-friendly option.
This situation should comfortably match the Cryorig or a CM 212. The stock cooler might even be suitable for a slight overclock if you're not planning to raise the vcore significantly, though I recommend doing a thorough test.
If the cooler is from an i7 6700 and you're not overclocking, it's fine to use it. I'm not sure if stock Intel coolers have different TDPs compared to past models. What case are you planning to use? A Cryorig H7 is a solid budget option if it suits your needs.
