The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Jenny O’ The Woods Frame Dip Investigation

I’m experiencing a noticeable frame dip (30-28fps) during Jenny O’ The Woods’ sidequest in Skyrim, specifically when she summons her illusions. This occurs at Ultra settings with a capped 60fps, dropping to 30 or 28 fps when the illusions appear and disappear. I've attempted several troubleshooting steps without success: lowering graphics settings to Low, disabling Vsync and AMD Shader Cache, completely disabling tessellation via AMD Override, uninstalling mods, and overclocking both my CPU (A10-5800k) and GPU (RX 470). During the affected scene, my CPU usage peaks at 70-85% with a maximum temperature of 60°C. My RX 470 consistently utilizes only 60-70% of its capacity. I’m questioning whether this is due to a CPU bottleneck, as lowering graphics settings doesn't resolve the issue, or if it’s simply a limitation of my hardware or the game itself. I’m seeking insight into why this specific frame dip occurs and what factors might be contributing to it, considering that other users have reported similar issues with A10 processors in Skyrim.

This text describes potential causes of poor gaming performance, focusing on hardware and software issues. It suggests troubleshooting steps like checking graphics drivers, BIOS updates, and considering the type of storage drive used (mechanical vs. SSD). The emphasis is on identifying common culprits such as outdated drivers, insufficient RAM, and slow storage speed.

To resolve performance issues, begin with a clean installation of graphics drivers, checking for BIOS updates and newer chipset drivers for your motherboard. Update all drivers, including storage controllers, audio, and network adapters, from the manufacturer’s website. If you have other hardware, update their drivers as well. A thorough driver update process is often key to improving gaming performance.

Lower the in game settings especially Hairworks. I'm surprised you can play at Ultra with that hardware. Even at 1080p. My old 980 Ti ( with a 6700k ) would only do ~55FPS average at 1440p.

If my other hardware except for my GPU are better, i believe RX470 can run it 60fps on 1080p.
Anyway, Hairworks are off, everything on Ultra except for some of these set to High
Numbers of background character
Terrain quality
Foliage draw distance
768p Resolution.

That makes you very CPU bound. The CPU matter WAY more at resolutions below and including 1080p. At 1440p and up the load bias shifts to the graphics card.

Now thats new to me, i just decided to run the game on 1080p with Hairworks ,
But the tessellation overridden to x8 from Radeon settings, FPS Capped on 35.
Not even arrived on Novigrad yet, heard its very heavy there with alot of NPC.
I'm expecting Frame dips to low 40 or even 30, capped to 35 from now,
so my eye will get used to it. I guess better this way, rather than let it run at higher but fluctuative FPS, anyway thanks for your responses.
