Witcher 3 Elder Blood trailer on YouTube compared to the original game.
Some of us shared our concerns about needing a graphics reduction to run the game, especially after seeing the latest Elder Blood trailer. On the Forum, people mentioned issues with poor YouTube compression, so I looked for the original version for comparison and was pleased! Here are some screenshots I took—even though they’re a lower quality version, the contrast is clear. I’m hoping the difference becomes obvious when you compare the original to the YouTube clip!
Sorry, the forum applies strong compression. Here’s a link to your original files: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/pyo1mu96pr8u0...GFboa?dl=0
The Dropbox images are much easier to view. The forum reduced the picture size from 1 Mb to around 100kb, which is quite a big change! If you need the original file, here’s the link: https://mega.co.nz/#!wY41QD7R!CQdf_E5GVg...W0gavJBPCM
The compression reduces the vibrancy somewhat. It doesn’t seem too much to me since I prefer a muted appearance, though I understand many favor bright colors.
Additionally, the texture in the original version is quite excellent, whereas during some quick moments in the YouTube clip it appears extremely poor, unlike the original.
There are several issues with this setup. First, I don’t think there’s anything that would cause a visual downgrade—just differences in color in the MOV file and slightly more compression in the YouTube version. Second, it seems they simply transferred the MOV to YouTube instead of re-rendering the trailer. Third, the player settings might vary between devices. Fourth, the JPG files are lossy; if the screenshots weren’t taken in the same order, the image quality could differ. Fifth, the frames weren’t compared directly—changes like lighting or arm position can make details unrecognizable.
