Witcher 1 reaching peak performance on R9 290
You're experiencing performance issues on your R9 290 with The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, even when running at full GPU speeds in menus and the title screen. It seems like the problem might be related to driver settings or unusual configurations affecting performance. I'm looking for advice or fixes from others who have faced similar challenges.
Do you notice unexpectedly low frame rates? Since games are meant to fully utilize your GPU, any lack of optimization might be the issue.
It seems like the issue might be with the driver or the game itself. Compatibility mode doesn't seem to solve it, but you might want to give it another try.
I own a 290 and completed The Witcher without any problems. I plan to launch it immediately to check if the current driver affects performance, since I haven't played it with the latest one. Edit: downloading will take roughly 15 minutes. Edit2: BioShock Infinite works well for me at full resolution with AA enabled; GPU usage hits 100% whether Vsync is active or not. I achieve about 130 FPS without Vsync. By the way, I was at the beach in Battlestar Galactica.
It could be unrelated to the GPU. I assumed it was an older game since they didn’t increase my clock speed, but it’s likely a CPU problem because it’s running on just one core at full capacity.
I was playing The Witcher at the highest setting, using the newest driver, and everything worked perfectly. Running at 1440p on the latest graphics card felt seamless. Consistent over 100 FPS in the temple quarter of Vizima. What model of CPU are you using? I also saw core 1 hitting its limit on my 4670k at 4.0 GHz, but still ran smoothly. My GPU was fully utilized as well.
