Hey, I've seen a big drop in your network's wireless performance over the last couple of weeks. Even though BT says everything is fine and your wired devices work, all the wireless connections are getting heavily limited. I can't even load a simple image on WiFi without touching the router, and it's not just affected by Ethernet connections. This seems new, so it's hard to pinpoint the cause. What should I do? I've thought about upgrading the default router, but if it's not the problem, it might not be worth it. My current speed tops out at 60Mb/s, so I'm wondering if this would really make a difference—both for WiFi and Ethernet. If you need more details, just let me know. Thanks for your help!

That's a router problem. The modems and routers that come with ISP's are always bull****, every time. Get a modem w/o wifi at Best Buy, and a strong router. Call your ISP to set up the new modem that'll have more lanes to it, and hardwire the new router too. Guaranteed you'll have faster internet.

The upgraded modem plays a key role here. Your ISP should be able to handle the additional bandwidth. You don’t have to replace the router with something like the Asus AX5400; the new modem will suffice.

What type of internet service do you receive from BT? Does your provider permit you to use a personal modem? This typically applies to cable internet companies. Not clear if the same rules apply in the UK. What is the model of your network equipment? You can perform a wireless scan with WiFi Analyzer and take screenshots of the 'Analyze' and 'Networks' sections, covering both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, and display your network's SSID.

I received the Fibre 2 package, specifically the 71Mb version. I’m unsure if it supports my own modem. What’s the router’s make and model? Which WiFi analyzer should I use? Should I check my phone or a desktop app? There are many options, but most don’t offer Analyze or Network scanning features.

I'm not sure what BT stands for, but ISPs in the U.S. lease low-quality modems they can find. Comcast offers 4-lane modems that restrict bandwidth, causing you to pay more than what you actually get. I swapped out their modems for my own in two homes and a studio, and stability improved noticeably. In one case, speeds doubled.

Comcast provides internet gateways like modems and routers. With a wired connection, you usually get what you pay for. According to what I've heard, their latest models perform well. I'm not paying any rental charges to test them.

Whatever your ISP offers and any additional attachments you have. The top result on Google from the Microsoft Store. Works on your computer despite speed issues over WiFi. Fiber ISPs deliver different equipment based on how the fiber reaches your house. It isn't a traditional "modem," and I haven't seen an ISP that lets you use your own ONT/gateway. Don't be surprised if you can't replace it with your own; chances are you won't.

It seems we purchase the devices directly and cover the service costs. The router is referred to as a "BT Smart Hub." You can view some images from the play store here: https://imgur.com/a/0iZhaj9
