Change your wireless card to monitor mode on your MacBook. Since you’re using kali live, check the system settings or use the built-in tools to switch it. If echo commands aren’t showing up, try connecting an external USB monitor and see if it works there—then follow those steps.

airmon-ng begin [interface] — probably the right way to launch it. Maybe I'm mistaken; it's been about five months since I attempted this.
