I'm setting up a TV in my room and planning to connect my PC for gaming with friends using emulated consoles and party games. I'm searching for a wireless controller suitable for this setup. Should I opt for a wireless controller designed for PC use, or would a wired option with an adapter be better? I'm aiming for something more affordable than an Xbox controller but willing to invest more if it's the optimal choice. Thanks in advance.

I began using a wired Logitech gamepad about 15 years ago. It functioned adequately, but several games failed to recognize it properly, requiring me to adjust keyboard keys and button placements for each title. Later, I switched to a Windows XBOX 360 pad that included a wireless adapter. It performed perfectly with all the games until the receiver stopped working. Over the past five years, I've been using an XBOX One gamepad, which has remained fully compatible with every game I've tested. Both Bluetooth and microUSB connections work smoothly. My Powerex rechargeable batteries perform well inside it and can be easily recharged via the USB cable. Many people also use PS4 gamepads on Windows, though I don't use them myself.

i began using a wired Logitech gamepad about 15 years ago.
it functioned adequately, but several games failed to recognize it, requiring me to adjust keyboard keys for different buttons and thumbsticks.
later, i switched to a Windows XBOX 360 pad that included a wireless adapter.
it performed perfectly with all the games until the receiver stopped working.
over the past five years, i've relied on an XBOX One gamepad that consistently supports every title tested. both Bluetooth and microUSB connections work smoothly. my Powerex rechargeable batteries operate well inside it and can be quickly recharged via the USB port.
many people use PS4 gamepads with Windows, though some complain they need special software like x360ce to properly set up the buttons.
while any "Windows 10" gamepad should work without issues, you might still need to install additional programs or run background services to function correctly.
a more straightforward choice could be to stick with Microsoft's solutions.

I cried when the Xbox 360 pad no longer worked a couple of years ago. In my opinion, it's the best.

i still see quite a few of them and their wireless adapters for sale, many still new.
just sucks there's no warranty or customer support through MS anymore.
