I purchased a DualSense about a month ago for Returnal. Sometimes the game would crash, but I could just restart and get back on track. Recently there was another crash, so I thought it was time to stop playing. The following day I tried Warzone 2.0 and it froze at startup. I ran through several troubleshooting steps and realized the issue was linked to the controller being connected. After removing it, the game started normally. Then I played Returnal again. When I plugged in the controller, the game would lock up during title screens. Removing the controller fixed it. I restarted the game, loaded my save, and was in the game. As soon as I reinserted the controller, the game froze again. I used a USB connection only, not Bluetooth. This setup is necessary for Returnal’s feedback system to function properly. I installed the Sony Firmware Updater for DualSense, but it now freezes when the controller is connected. If I use this same cable on my laptop and run the update tool, it works without problems. On my PC, the OS recognizes the controller fine, but any app that needs to initialize it freezes. I bought this controller specifically for Returnal, yet it’s no longer usable. What I’ve done so far: removed Steam, ran SFC/DISM repair, updated drivers and BIOS, ensured all Windows updates are current, and cleared the full memory test. Event logs after plugging in show an error about setting traits on Provider. Error code 0xC0000001, Event ID 28. I’m using Windows 11 x64. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. This worked perfectly on March 2nd, but not on March 3rd. It’s been a real challenge. The same controller and cable are fine on my laptop without any issues. No admin logs appear there. Don't worry, it's okay to feel that way. You're not alone.
