Are you certain no additional drives are attached? Internal or USB?
Display should match if only one drive is visible.

I’m going to attempt another version with a different file format, even though it might increase the size to 32. I’m really struggling right now.

allow the MediaCreation tool to create what it requires, exactly as needed.

That’s what I did the first time I created another installation media after the fake clean install, and both of them appear with windows.old. Both have the USB device showing up during the installation process.

I don't understand what else to say.
The USB you're trying to install
from
doesn't appear in the list of installation locations.
Moreover, 'windows.old' won't show up after deleting partitions or performing a clean Windows installation on an empty drive.

I captured every action I took. The only thing I suspect could have gone wrong was the USB formatting, though I believe the installation media would resolve it even with an incorrect allocation size or if I hadn't placed it on fat 32 too early.
