Windows XP – Not able to reach Windows Update feature
I've set up a WinXP VM for testing and am facing issues with updates. The SSL in IE8 is broken, preventing access to secure sites. I also can't run the control panel since it depends on installing plugins through Internet Explorer. Do you have any suggestions on how to enable Windows Update without using IE, or ways to fix the SSL problem?
Windows Update is labeled "Automatic Updates" in the XP control panel. I managed to turn it on as well, but I believe I need a root certificate update too. It seems to be mentioned in this thread: https://msfn.org/board/topic/175170-root...indows-xp/
You're right about the server issues with XP and Vista. It seems SP3 and newer releases are available as downloads from third-party sources, but they won't work directly inside Windows.
I managed to get it running properly, everything was downloaded as expected. The PoSready 2009 registry update helped a lot. IE8 is still quite slow, which isn’t unexpected. I had to enable automatic updates through the control panel. Once I updated the root certificates, it even got recognized by Microsoft.
