Windows XP Essential - Gaming Software / Tips / Tweaks
My XP gaming PC (32 bit) is almost ready and looks great. I'm looking for the necessary software or system adjustments to achieve the optimal experience. I already have the following programs installed:
RTSS (for stable frame times/limits)
RadeonPro (Vsync, AA, AF)
TweakUI
My specifications are:
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 215
GPU: ATI Radeon X1900 XTX
RAM: 2GB DDR3 (single channel, possibly upgrading later to a dual channel 4GB setup)
I've made some minor tweaks to performance but nothing significant, and I wanted to check if anyone has suggestions.
To achieve 4GB or more of RAM in a 32bit XP system, you must enable PAE by modifying the boot.ini file, appending /pae to the end of the 'operating system' line, and adding necessary files while referencing them in boot.ini.
