It's quite surprising for a Z series board, but it seems we should appreciate that Dell offered the chance to enable XMP. That's pretty considerate. If you can't adjust the frequency, voltage, or memory settings, then experimenting with different stick combinations in the slots might yield a stable solution. Clearly, this one threw us into a tough spot.
checking the kits in slots 1 and 2, PC boots at 3200mhz, PC boots at 3200mhz in slots 3 and 4. If I try any other combo like 1 and 3 at 2133mhz, I stopped testing there and went to the second slot combination. The motherboard won’t provide the right voltage. I even mixed and matched kits, but only got the same results. I took one stick from each kit and tested them in both slots—3200 or 3 and 4.
The PSU isn't the cause unless you're close to exceeding its capacity, which would likely lead to crashes when running the PC under stress. This points to a memory, CPU, or motherboard problem. Period. Are Dell tech support really that unreliable? I should be surprised by this, but it's hard to believe someone would even mention it.
I eventually lost the connection. It's even worse than fighting them. If Corsair can help, I'd be glad; otherwise, I'll just go to 2133 and be done (there aren't many choices).
