Windows updates for Windows 7 often require a significant amount of time to complete.
Hello. I just reinstalled Windows 7 with the goal of upgrading to Windows 10. To do that, I need the Windows 10 installer. It appears through Windows Update, specifically KB3035583. It's been a while since I last used Windows 7, and I don't remember checking for updates before. Is it normal for a fresh Windows 7 SP1 installation to take a long time—like several hours?
Sometimes I encounter delays where updates aren't available for a while. The longer the older version is, the more time it takes.
Windows update slows down significantly because the older version (pre Windows 8, probably) was built to verify each update one by one in sequence. The process checks every update that is possible and runs them in the order they were released. This approach was implemented to prevent system performance issues and ensure updates are applied correctly without disruption.
