Hello. I just reinstalled Windows 7 with the goal of upgrading to Windows 10. To do that, I need the Windows 10 installer. It appears through Windows Update, specifically KB3035583. It's been a while since I last used Windows 7, and I don't remember checking for updates before. Is it normal for a fresh Windows 7 SP1 installation to take a long time—like several hours?

I've already checked for updates, but it's still stuck in "Checking." A few folks recommended using safe mode—should I wait a bit longer or try that instead?

Sometimes I encounter delays where updates aren't available for a while. The longer the older version is, the more time it takes.
