Windows Update restores the user account.
I planned to apply all the newest Windows updates regularly. This month I installed a voluntary update as well, staying current. It took much longer than usual and the machine restarted multiple times. Once it completed, I tried logging in but encountered an error about "cannot read user settings." I restarted the computer again, and this time the wallpaper and icons were cleared. After checking, my entire user account was reset to its original state. The update I received was named "Functionsupdate for Windows 10, Version 2004." I considered wiping the PC and reinstalling Windows if anything was damaged. Any advice would be appreciated?
It's not just this one problem, but major issues after Windows 10 updates are actually quite frequent. I struggled to update my laptop for two years without it becoming nearly unusable. It seems even worse for laptops compared to desktops, since they rely heavily on custom drivers and Windows often can't handle them properly. It's frustrating in no way. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
