My laptop upgraded on its own while I was working, and now its disk usage is at full capacity. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Every update seems to trigger another problem. It hasn’t been the first time either—there was a fix a few updates ago.

It seems highly unusual the disk usage drops to zero after switching off Wi-Fi. The system fluctuates between 2 and 0, possibly indicating network detection issues. There appears to be a concern about data loss from Microsoft.

It's typical for Windows updates to cause issues, especially on a failing hard drive. That's why I moved to SSDs.

It seems like you're questioning Microsoft's reliability and feeling uneasy about their priorities. They appear to focus heavily on business interests rather than user concerns, which adds to your skepticism. Privacy issues are also a major concern right now.

It's definitely this tricky scenario where Linux isn't ideal for everyday use, Microsoft faces some reputation issues, and Apple comes with a high price tag due to poor construction and unreliable software. No matter what you choose, you'll likely face challenges down the line.

Apple is really costly, and I’ve worked with Linux before—there are numerous gaps you need to navigate to accomplish basic tasks.

It was a struggle getting Mint set up. Eventually it worked, but it needed about ten minutes to start from the same Windows 7 drive. The newest versions of Mac OS are still full of issues. My friend once turned on his 2015 MacBook Pro, opened System Preferences, and got the lock screen pop up saying he hadn’t unlocked the device yet.

Identify the task manager activity related to disk usage. It seems legitimate processes like CompatTelRunner.exe or Chrome compatibility checks might be running. If the issue appears under the system category, it’s likely part of an update and you should continue waiting.

Can't recall the names of the processes, but they all seemed legitimate. I searched them and everything is back to normal. I don’t use Chrome; I’m using Edge because of its clean appearance. I understand it has some negative perceptions, but it’s actually a decent browser.

It seems the system completed the update quietly. I don’t rely on Chrome, yet I’ve noticed similar issues on other users’ machines in the background.
