Hey there, tech enthusiasts. My laptop crashed during a Windows 10 update and when I came back it didn’t work. Now I can’t use Discord or any apps needing a mic. Also, after the update, switching tabs in games takes much longer than before.

Access the sound control interface and verify the Recording section. Ensure the microphone appears and is configured as the primary input. If absent from the recording list, consult Device Manager to confirm its presence and install any necessary updates or drivers.

I don't have the option to change it by default.

You can't make it the default since it's already set that way. Navigate to the bottom-right corner of the screen, click the volume icon, and choose "Open Volume Settings." Make sure your microphone is selected, then press the troubleshoot button (though it might not help). If that fails, go to Device Properties, check the Levels tab to ensure the mic isn't muted, press Advanced, restore defaults, apply changes, restart the PC, and let us know if it works.

Adjust your privacy settings by ensuring the microphone access is enabled. Check that apps can use the microphone and that the Desktop App Web Viewer is activated if required. If "Discord" appears in the allowed list, activate it.

Yes, you adjust it to "on" so that apps can use your microphone.

You decide whether apps can use your microphone. If the answer is no, then no one will have access.
