Yes, technically it is possible. However, Windows Vista has not been updated for a long time and remains exposed to risks when connected to the internet, especially if you visit certain websites.

I can apply the newest patches for server 2008, but I’m wondering if older versions are still needed. Also, a few updates seem to cause system issues.

I rely on the extended kernel, but an update damaged it and the system stopped working. I plan to install Windows 8.1.
