Windows update failure reported for OS version 16299.192.
The newest Windows Update patches (Meltdown and Spectre) weren't found in the Windows Update section of Settings. I repeatedly tried 'check for updates' over several days, but my PC still shows as up to date (version 1709, build 16299.125). Avast Free AV is current and confirms compatibility with the latest release. How can this be resolved?
It hasn't been released yet, apparently. Apple is working on it for macOS and iOS, while Microsoft hasn't announced any updates yet.
I might be mistaken, but it could depend on the edition (pro or home) or if you joined the insider program. I had pro and managed to change yesterday to 16299.192. The update should appear during the Tuesday release. What bothers me is that I only discovered this issue by chance—even with 16299.192, full protection isn’t guaranteed. Microsoft warns that users who install only the January 2018 security updates won’t get all known safeguards against vulnerabilities. Besides those updates, a processor microcode or firmware update is also needed. This should be offered by your device maker. So, if I understand correctly, you won’t receive all security patches unless you also update your BIOS. (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...ilities-in). Really? How many new users don’t know how to update their BIOS or even if it’s necessary? How far back will manufacturers push for BIOS updates? Please tell me I’m insane.
