I've owned my PC for roughly five years without any serious issues. Recently, after a Windows update, it fails to boot properly—it only powers on briefly, then shuts off. It doesn’t start at all unless I disconnect and reconnect the power source. I’ve ruled out a short circuit. Occasionally it boots normally after removing and reattaching peripherals. The PSU seems functional (verified with a paperclip test). Need any advice? Your specs are: B450 Tomahawk Ryzen 5 2500 Zotac RTX2060 G-Skill Ripjaws 16GB.
Disconnect the CMOS battery for one minute, then retry. (with the battery still in place)
It switched back on briefly and then shut off again. Also, I missed noting that after a second of being on, it becomes completely inactive until I plug it in several times.
It seems the system isn’t responding. The update might be unrelated. Remove the board from the case and disconnect all components except the CPU and power cables, including RAM. Attempt to boot by shorting the power pins with a screwdriver. If no RAM error appears, the issue lies with the CPU, board, or PSU. Re-seating everything can sometimes resolve the problem. Once fixed, confirm by replacing parts or visiting a repair shop for testing.
My computer worked fine after I woke up, but I'll keep an eye on it. If it fails again, I'll use the screwdriver.
