My computer is about four years old and has been experiencing crashes with Windows. The display goes dark and then, after restarting, shows a recovery message indicating Windows didn’t load properly. I recently installed a fresh Windows version on both my SSD and HDD to check for drive issues, but the system still crashes after a few hours. A user on r/buildapc recommended installing Linux to determine if the problem is hardware or software-related, and so far Linux is functioning correctly. My RAM has been tested with memtest, and the drives checked via SMART report normal conditions.

Could it be that an untested component like the CPU or motherboard is causing the issue? If that’s the case, would Linux also fail to boot? Also, could outdated or faulty drivers be the reason, even though bad drivers usually prevent Windows from starting at all? The specs I have are: 128GB Samsung SSD (where system files were stored), a 1TB WD Blue hard drive, an i5 6600k processor with Sapphire RAM (around 8GB), AsRock K170 Fatality motherboard, and EVGA 650GS graphics card.

It might stem from a GPU driver issue on Linux. The operating system typically uses the amd official drivers unless specified otherwise.

I used just one operating system at a time, but my SSD now runs Linux.
