Windows stopped working properly.
Hello everyone, I'm facing a tricky issue with my Windows 10 PC. It hasn't started since yesterday and today it boots into troubleshooting mode. The SSD works fine, runs on a USB adapter, and appears in BIOS as a boot option. When used as a boot medium on another PC, it shows the troubleshooting screen directly. I've tried SFC and CHKDSK, but they keep failing with the same error message. DISM cleanup didn't help either. The boot recovery tool found a Windows installation, but when I try to add it to the startup list, it says "The system cannot find the specified path." I have backups of important files and can still access them, but I'm worried about a full reinstall. If the system starts normally, it seems like a fresh Windows installation could replace the old files while preserving my programs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
GPT UEFI boot seems likely. Refer to the support guide for steps: https://support.novabackup.com/hc/en-us/...0598122418
I see three boot choices in BIOS, but only one seems valid. It appears there are three options: an MBR boot, and two UEFI variants. If the boot partition remains intact, it could assist with issues like W10. For more details, refer to the support article about fixing EFI bootloader on a GPT HDD.
You were told you lacked the necessary permissions to fix the boot issue. However, there’s a German resource that explains this problem and suggests formatting the ~500 MB system partition before trying again. After doing so, the automatic repair worked and Windows started normally once more. The exact cause remains unclear to me, but it seems the fix was successful this time.
