Windows setup doesn't recognize the SSD device.
I obtained a Server 2012 R2 license from DreamSpark for my fileserver, but when attempting installation on the SSD it doesn’t appear as a valid option. It’s visible in the BIOS, and the previous Windows version still functions properly on that drive. I also tried using the Asmedia SATA3 driver, but it didn’t work. The motherboard (Asrock Q1900-ITX) and the BX100 SSD are compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2 (standard), though installation of “core” is problematic. Any suggestions on how to make Windows recognize this drive? Also, the latest firmware update was applied recently. NOTE: There was a recent power outage in my area, but the BIOS still accepted it. It also works with a SATA cable (USB) for updating and performing a clean wipe.
Yes, you can boot another OS and launch the installer from there. The transition from XP to 7 was smooth overall, though the F6 SATA driver still caused issues. It seems the Server installation disk might support this method, as the seven installer included a straightforward setup.exe on the root of the disc.
I cleaned the storage device, but plan to install Windows 8.1 Pro. At least to check if it detects the drive during installation. Note: @ Naeaes also had no luck—Windows 8.1 didn’t recognize it either. Makes sense, given that 2012 is linked to the Windows 8 code.
