Hi everyone, I own a Razer Blade 14 mid 2016 with a 3200x1800 screen. To get the best performance, I usually scale it to 175 or 200%. When I use just the laptop screen as a secondary display and my 34-inch Ultrawide as the main one, I notice a lot of lag when switching windows between them. I think this is because the system has to redraw everything at a lower scale, which can take several seconds—way too slow. Also, my CPU usage spikes when browsing the internet even with the laptop display on, suggesting the scaling might be taxing the processor. If I connect just an external monitor and turn off the laptop screen, everything runs smoothly. It seems like the laptop isn’t throttling itself; instead, it’s handling the scaling demands, which could be why I’m seeing high CPU temps (around 50-60°C) and clock speeds of 3.2GHz.

It shouldn't be slow, though it might just be an issue with switching from a non-Ultrawide to an Ultrawide setup. At home I use different monitors with resolutions like 6700k and 980Ti, and it works fine. Does the Razer Blade have its own dedicated graphics card?

It supports a 970m 6GB model and works smoothly even on a standard 1080p screen. Adjusting the laptop display to 1600x900 at full scale eliminates lag.

The image would not lag if kept at 3200x1800 with full scaling.

I haven't attempted it yet, I don't think so. At 3200x1800 with full scaling, the text on the screen is almost invisible.

I'll check it out when I get back from work today. I think it shouldn't slow down.

Which cable are you employing to link the external display?

HDMI works similarly regardless of the connection method, though it might perform slightly less well with a Thunderbolt display port. Rumors suggest the issue could relate to routing through the iGPU for Optimus, but this isn't confirmed.

Verify if your HDMI cable supports the increased speed needed for both monitors. Check its age to ensure it meets current requirements.
