On Windows 11 I experienced a BSOD, sudden shutdowns, and frequent freezes. I booted into a live Kali Linux USB which crashed twice—once on the logo and once shortly after launching. Since both OSes were present, I thought hardware might be the issue. I replaced CPU, RAM, and GPU, then ran a thorough 4-pass memory test (64GB took 8 hours) and it passed without errors. After entering safe mode, I tested VLC at full resolution for an hour in both Windows and Kali, with no crashes. When I restarted in Kali, it crashed again on the logo. I then tried DiskPart to remove NVMe drives and installed a spare drive, but Kali still froze. I’m unsure if this will help since Kali also failed. What should I do next?

The PC's background isn't clear. It seems to be quite old, with issues beginning some time ago. There are parts that aren't up-to-date or verified. If it started acting strange recently, there may have been recent hardware changes. The 64GB configuration is noted, but running Furmark for four hours isn't advised.

AMD 5950x processor paired with 64GB of 3600Mhz RAM has worked well for most of the past four to five years. No upgrades have been made; I removed DAEMON tools to test the battlefield beta when the crashes began, and a system restore didn’t fix the issue.

AMD 5950x processor paired with 64GB of 3600Mhz RAM has stayed mostly stable over the past four to five years. No upgrades have been made; I recently removed DAEMON tools to enable the battlefield beta, but a system restore didn’t resolve the issue.

What model is your RAM? It might be related to a drive problem, so feel free to test it if you have the components on hand.

The test indicates a possible issue with an SSD or HDD.

You were attempting to set up Kali on a specific storage device. I recommend disconnecting all drives and leaving either the target drive for Kali or the one with Windows installed. Check if the freezing happens during the BIOS setup as well.

I was just running a live boot with Ventoy for Kali, expecting it to use USB/RAM. I thought that would help isolate the drives, but perhaps it didn’t work as planned. After leaving it on the BIOS for an hour, it hasn’t frozen yet.

I initially assumed it was an operating system, not an installer. Sorry about that.

No problem at all, I wasn't the most accurate when providing information.
