Hey, I’m having a tough time with Windows 8.1 right now. I need to switch to Windows 7 Professional and make sure my Steam apps are backed up before I start the upgrade.

The only thing I can say is that switching to Windows 7 for gaming isn't a big change...

You can inquire about the reasons, but starting with Start8 or returning to Windows 8/Windows 10 would be a better approach. These options generally offer improved performance. So yes, it makes sense to downgrade for better results.

Wait for the announcement at 8.1 until June's release. As someone testing the tech preview, I can confidently say it’s incredible.

Checking the memory requirements for those versions can help you decide. For Windows 7 with 4GB RAM, you’ll likely need more than what’s available. On an 8.1 processor in 64-bit mode, ensure your system has sufficient RAM to run smoothly.

4GB should suffice for either system, though I believe Windows 7 requires more resources.

However, on Windows 7 64-bit with only 4GB of RAM, Minecraft performed better in frames per second compared to Windows 8.1.

Do you have the most recent GPU drivers set up? Are you running Java 8 on a 64-bit platform?
