Windows occasionally removes itself
Windows occasionally removes itself
Hey everyone, at the beginning of the year I decided to make a significant change. Now I’m running a Maximus z790 Hero, an i9 13900KF, 32GB Trident Z DDR5-6400, Strix RTX 4080, a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB (PCIe4.0) as the main drive, plus one Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB (PCIe 3.0) for gaming, all powered by a 1600W Seasonic 80Plus Titanium unit. Since I set up the system I faced numerous issues—from random crashes to failure to boot, even when Windows would sometimes just hang and show SSDs without a proper boot menu. Over time, I’ve had to replace RAM, the motherboard, power supply, and even the graphics card, plus several BIOS updates and software reinstalls.
From the start it would randomly display a blue screen, prevent troubleshooting, or jump straight to BIOS with no boot manager visible. Sometimes the SSDs appeared but nothing worked. Eventually, Windows would fail to launch altogether, and the PC would enter BIOS directly. If it did start, it would either crash immediately after login or sometimes work after a few minutes of waiting.
To get things running again at first I’d just unplug the RAM and reinsert it—Windows would boot normally. In recent attempts turning off the PSU power switch, holding the case’s power button for a while, and waiting about ten minutes usually fixed it. But after that, the power button sometimes wouldn’t respond at all.
Now I have a costly machine that’s practically unusable. I’m running out of ideas, so maybe someone can help me resolve this. The latest Q-codes I saw were 98 (related to IO), unplugging my keyboard/mouse/sound caused it to jump to 99 before entering BIOS. Sorry for the lengthy update—thank you all for your patience.
I don't think so. But since the previous PC worked just fine with the same Periphery and on the same socket, it seems unlikely the issue is with that. Thanks for your response! I have a support ticket at the place where I bought the CPU; once it's resolved, I'll update this post. It might take some time.
Thank you for the clarification. After reviewing the video, I realize this isn't related to my problem anymore. Setting up Samsung Magician and confirming my SSD is updated and functioning properly were part of my troubleshooting steps.
It was the only thought that crossed my mind when I realized the boot drive was a 980 Pro, good luck.
