The only setting I’m familiar with is for apps in the task manager, focusing on thread assignment. Reducing thread priority would slow down an app rather than speed it up. For Opera running slowly, there are several options available. Firefox works as a good alternative, Edge resembles Chrome but with different metadata handling focused on Microsoft, and Safari is distinct though limited to Macs. I’m not sure about a Windows version of Safari yet.
Open Task Manager, select Details, click on dwm.exe, then choose Set Priority... Adjust the priority from default high to normal, below normal, or low as needed.
Yeah. I believe it’s unlikely to make a difference. The auto is usually quite solid. If you’re okay with lowering the speed, that’s fine. It probably won’t solve your issue, but it’s possible some developer prioritized performance over stability. The catch is they might have pushed the app to run higher even in the background, thinking it was crucial for their goals—fixing it could reintroduce the problem. It’s a delicate situation. I generally prefer not to interfere. The good side is if it causes bigger issues, you can easily revert it. I think setting a restore point would be the simplest fix, letting you click “no” and reset everything in one go. Edited July 19, 2022 by Bombastinator
