In Task Manager and Windows processes, Desktop Windows Manager tends to consume a significant amount of RAM—currently around 300MB when idle. Sometimes the GPU usage spikes dramatically. This could be contributing to the lag you're experiencing on your XP laptop. One suggestion is to check the details for dwm.exe, specifically its priority settings, and adjust it to normal.
