Hello everyone! My friend in Italy is assembling a PC—no need for a parts list, just a Windows 7 32-bit copy. I was thinking about visiting a computer scrapyard to build a machine for F@H and noticed some desktops had the keys labeled on the case. My questions are: 1. Is it possible to transfer a key from one pre-built PC to another (even with different boards)? 2. Are those keys restricted by region? Thanks!

These files aren't tied to a specific region, yet the components found in pre-built versions are typically bound to the motherboard of that build, making it ineffective to use them elsewhere.

It seems you're planning to test something. Just remember to proceed carefully and safely.

Based on whether the key was an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or a user-provided one, you might contact Microsoft to reset it. But since it's Windows 7, that's unlikely. Look for the motherboard and CPU in a ready-made system with a license key already included if you really need Windows 7. Upgrading later can often be more affordable, especially with used equipment.

They are generally not restricted by region, though occasionally you might need to enable a system language that matches where the key was originally sold. (This setting can be adjusted later if needed.)

That's interesting. You'll need to try it later.

Purchased on eBay for £10, received a 7 OA x64 SP1 with key input during setup. Required phone activation via MS service, which provided a large number; activation succeeded and the device wasn’t locked to any country.
