I maintain the ASUS GM501GS Zephyrus M at BIOS 313 for stable undervolting. With the latest BIOS (317) I can adjust the GPU voltage but not the CPU, achieving the desired effect. For better thermal performance I need BIOS 313 enabled in Windows Device Installation Settings. It seems a recent Windows update altered how updates are processed, making it harder to control BIOS changes. My BIOS lacks an option to halt or prevent Windows UEFI updates, which is disappointing. I understand the connection between firmware and device drivers in Device Manager. Is there a method to selectively prevent certain devices from updating?

You might attempt to conceal the Windows Update troubleshooting tool from Microsoft at http://download.microsoft.com/download/F...de.diagcab

He didn’t even realize this existed, and I think that was the point. Found the update. A couple restarted, tried running the Windows update multiple times but got nothing. I can do whatever you want—massage your feet or serve spiked hot chocolate right now. That’s enough...? Either way, thanks!

Someone chose to allow OS updates for PC firmware because motherboards include an Update Utility that relies on a Flash FOB. It functions effectively.

It's a UEFI capability. Motherboard tools often have poor interfaces and are not well-designed. They're built for particular Windows versions. According to the OS updater, it should automatically handle UEFI updates no matter what OS you have. Make sure UEFI stays current. The concern from YouTubers and some users comes from worries about updates being unreliable, especially since many update programs aren't perfect.

I prefer to start directly in the UEFI and perform the update using the USB drive.
