Windows issues with hard drive in various computer problems.
Hey there, I just finished setting up a new PC for my mom and ran into a tricky problem. I installed everything and checked that RAM and storage were recognized, but when I tried to boot from the old HDD on the AS Rock MB, I got an error asking if I wanted to repair Windows or start normally. I ran the repair and didn’t remember the exact message, but it mentioned a hardware change and said nothing could be fixed. After that, when I tried to start normally, the PC booted up fine, but then it restarted again. Eventually, I replaced the old HDD with the new one and rebooted—everything worked perfectly.
In the new PC, I have: (also don’t worry about it being too much since it matches what she wanted and fits her budget)
- 2x4GB RAM
- The same storage setup as before
Any tips or advice would be great!
It happened to me once too. I moved my hard drive from an old computer and it crashed during startup. The fix was reinstalling Windows. Because my new motherboard only works with UEFI and not the old BIOS, I had to create a GPT partition on the HDD. The original MBR didn’t fit, which caused the BSOD. By the way, where’s your GPU listed in the parts?
It seems the BIOS might be the problem. I’m holding off on formatting the HDD until I’m sure all important files are safe. She likely won’t need a GPU since she doesn’t play games.
It's the only approach I developed and tried that succeeded. Keep your files safe and follow my previous instructions.
