Today I used the FocalTech USB fingerprint reader, and Windows automatically installed driver version 1.0.3.58 from November 29, 2019. However, according to the Microsoft catalog, there is a newer driver version 3.5.7911.3546 dated August 31, 2023. I downloaded the driver as .cab and extracted it using WinRAR. From Device Manager I attempted to update the driver, but it reported that "the best drivers for your device are already installed." Could you suggest a better method to update the driver?

Click the *.inf file with the right mouse button, then follow the alternative steps, open Device Manager, right-click the device, update driver, manual install, have disk, and then navigate to the driver folder.

When updating via the device manager, I see the message "the best drivers for your device are already installed." However, after right-clicking and installing the .inf file, it displayed a success notice. Yet, when checking the driver version in the device manager, it still shows the previous version that was installed by Windows Update. The current driver version from Microsoft is available in the catalog, but I can't update it. All versions are listed on this site: https://treexy.com/products/driver-fusio...nt-reader/

Did you understand what I said? Please read the update driver manual installation instructions carefully. If you're unsure about forcing a driver install, search for tutorials online. You can find guidance here, but the process depends on your research. We cannot do it directly for you.

I successfully tried to update the driver, but it didn't work with my fingerprint reader despite being marked as compatible. Thank you for your assistance.

The update is being made to address potential issues with the fingerprint reader when using the current driver.

There was no problem with the present driver, though I noticed a newer one and wondered if it would perform better on Windows 11. However, the current version from 2019 is functioning adequately.

I recommend updating drivers only when...
a) you encounter an issue
b) you require additional features not included in the driver update (typical for graphics drivers)
