The page indicates an 8 GB RAM limit. It’s unclear whether installing on a system with more RAM like 16 GB will fully utilize the 8 GB or prevent installation entirely. The system might still function but could be limited in performance or features.

It would only identify 8 GB of memory available.

Only 8GB of your memory will be used. There’s nothing that can fail. It won’t consume any RAM beyond that.

It seems two 4 GB RAM sticks should suffice. Do you know the top ECC memory options available right now? I thought Hyper X was good, but it was a while ago.

Home Server 2011 had its strengths, but it's starting to feel a bit old. The 8GB RAM cap and the restriction on drive sizes—like only 2TB max—are limiting its performance. It might be smarter to switch to Windows 10 and add network backup software instead.

The RAM constraint is quite severe. Still, 2 TB storage remains usable. You're considering setting up another Ubuntu server for testing purposes—perfect for additional tasks.

Yes, drives up to 2 terabytes are supported, but anything beyond that must be divided into partitions.
