It mainly depends on the maker, but Windows Hello tends to lag behind pin entry and often drops out 50% of the time. Why must I wait for facial recognition to fail before entering my pin? It’s a real waste of time, especially since I disabled it because it was helpful when my hands were messy—like using a recipe on my laptop. You should be able to try the pin while it’s active, almost like a quick unlock challenge. The same issue applies to Apple; FaceID performs significantly better than others. It’s odd they delayed launching a mask mode until the end of the pandemic.

I haven't discussed Windows Hello, yet Apple's face ID responds very quickly in my experience.

I’ve got cousins come over and stuff, so I’m using pretty basic login details for my personal stuff.

Yes. If someone is determined to obtain your files, it's easy to reach them or reset a Windows password using simple and widely available tools. (Except when you're using full-disk encryption like BitLocker.) Direct physical access grants root-level permissions. Windows passwords are sufficient for this scenario!

I'm using my Logitech BRIO with my PC, which is a Core i7 930 and has 6GB of RAM. It's really fast, almost instant. Windows Hello works perfectly every time. I sometimes think it might be universal, but it's not. The real problem is with the camera itself. If you get a 100$ laptop with a slow HDD, a basic processor, and no cooling, it will slow down when you turn it on. It uses DDR1 RAM and struggles with performance. Compared to Apple devices with the M1 Ultra, it's over 20 times more expensive. If you want something cheaper than ~150$, you could try using Windows Hello PIN instead. Just enter a pin for login—it's quick and adds security.

My interaction with Windows Hello has been excellent. It was quick for me. Configured using Tobii eye tracker. Unfortunately, I damaged the cable.

I've encountered the same issue before. My desktop uses a supported camera, and I have two Surface books with it that perform very well. Even on the first Gen Surface book running Windows 11, everything loads quickly.
