I have two Windows 10 machines connected via a local network, yet transferring a large file (20GB) shows inconsistent performance. After some time, the copying speed drops sharply before recovering. This happens over different connection speeds—sometimes gigabit, other times 750 MB/sec or 2 GB/sec. It’s unclear what’s causing it. When using a gigabit connection, the process runs smoothly, but with slower links it stalls. I’ve noticed similar behavior across various SSD configurations and network setups, including Intel and AMD CPUs, all running Windows 10 21H2. This suggests something beyond storage hardware, possibly related to network settings or adapter configurations. Could be a default behavior of the network drivers or adapter settings. I’m also curious about the CPU differences—one machine has a Ryzen 7950X while the other an Intel i7-9750H. Any insights or adjustments that might resolve this issue?

They’re connected directly, so consider using jumbo frames. That option is labeled Jumbo Packet in the list. Raise it well above the standard setting on both sides (must match exactly). It might offer a set of predefined sizes or let you input any number you prefer. I’d suggest something like 9000.
