Windows fails to update, only displays "windows is restoring previous version of Windows"
You're facing a tricky situation with your Dell Latitude 7440. You attempted an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, but it's stuck in a loop, repeatedly trying to restore the older version and ending up back in Windows 7. What you can try is checking for any pending updates or system files, ensuring your hardware supports the newer OS, and considering a clean installation if the issue persists.
I’d either reinstall Windows 7 or set up Windows 10 myself, not just update automatically. If you have another computer, connect the drive and transfer vital files before proceeding, since this will erase your current data.
Ensure the disk is cleared before proceeding with the installation.
I migrated over 100 Latitudes and a few had the problem you described. What helped in most cases: -Check that there is enough Discspace on C:. It should be at least 30GB! Even if the preparation doesn't complain under 30GB seems to be not enough. -Uninstall the Wifi driver. There are many complains about the wifi driver interrupting the migration. -Do you have the 1511 or 1607 ISO or Media creation tool? Use the 1607, it has a few fixes.
I resolved the issue by employing the Windows 10 upgrade utility and activating recovery mode.
