Hey, after hearing about the Gigabyte security floor and most motherboard updates, I decided to go ahead. It was my first BIOS update, knowing issues could arise—but luckily I managed a successful try! When I tried to boot, it jumped straight into Windows Diagnostic instead of Windows. The setup shows up as one of the drives, but my Windows drive isn’t listed in the boot priority. I’m stuck between two drives—6 to 2? Not sure what to do. Gigabyte has had its share of problems lately, so I’m not too impressed. This machine is crucial for work, so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you have any photos—I’d love to see them. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Post-update, ensure CSM is turned off and secure boot is activated. BIOS might disable them following the update.

Thanks for the response. These settings were set correctly. I was dealing with some issues with the boot drive. So I took out my other two drives and kept just the Windows one on. (Advice came up online) I experienced the blue screen quickly without even starting Windows. Now in BIOS, the drive isn’t showing up at all. It feels like I’m really stuck. All because of a BIOS update.

Carry a USB stick and download Windows 10 from microsoft.com. Start by booting into it and opening the command prompt to execute commands that fix the BCD and possibly rebuild the EFI partition. This is usually needed because the operating system failed or the UEFI mapping got corrupted, so rebuilding might be required. The process involves several steps, which I've repeated recently for recovery purposes and disaster situations. You won't lose any data; you're just restoring the connection that might have broken during the UEFI update. This isn't a typical action when updating UEFI, but various factors can influence the outcome.

Thank you for your reply. I wonder if lowering the priority to the version before the BIOS update could help. The drive seems reluctant to appear in the boot order. Your idea of exploring this as a suggestion might be quite complex.

It might be worth testing it out under these conditions. Unless the updated UEFI from Gigabyte introduces a bug, going back to a stable version and resolving the problem there could help.

I might attempt that. Still concerned about the potential security threat from the backdoor, even though this is meant to fix it (clip from a show discussing it just in case you missed). However, I really need to resolve this as soon as possible for work. It feels tempting to replace the whole motherboard since my previous Gigabyte setup worked fine for three years with an Asus board. I'm stuck here—big security risk or the system won't boot into Windows right now?

It's a worry, but solutions exist. For instance, you can restrict the URL at the firewall level for your network and turn off the "APP Center Download and Install" feature. This is something I usually do. If you lack a hardware firewall—most people don’t have one unless you’re a tech oddball—I suggest using your wireless router. The Supply Chain Risk with Gigabyte App Center includes a backdoor, so inspect and disable it in the UEFI/BIOS setup. Set a BIOS password to prevent unauthorized changes. Admins can also block these links: http://mb.download.gigabyte.com/FileList...iveUpdate4, https://mb.download.gigabyte.com/FileLis...iveUpdate4, and https://software-nas/Swhttp/LiveUpdate4.

Restarted the earlier update, and everything functioned perfectly right away. Turned off those options just to ensure safety. Appreciate your assistance.

I'll wait for the next UEFI update, thinking this might be a rushed 'beta' fix to handle the problem. I haven't installed it myself yet, but I also have a hardware Sonicwall firewall that can block those links. Probably won't do it after seeing your situation. Still, I should mention I just set up an R5 7600 system on a Gigabyte B650 DS3H and updated the UEFI to the latest version—even before Windows was installed, right from the first POST in UEFI. For those curious about which boards are impacted: Gigabyte-Affected-Models.pdf (eclypsium.com)
