Windows fails to start following ATI card installation.
Here’s a revised version of your text:
So, a bit about the situation. My setup includes:
- i7 11700K processor, running at 4.18GHz
- Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB DDR4 2x8GB CL16 at 3600MHz
- ASRock Z590 Pro 4
- Intel 670P (512GB) for Windows installation
- Samsung 970 Evo Plus (2TB)
- Thermaltake View 71 TG RGB with an Antec fan at the bottom for better GPU cooling
- Windows 10 Pro
I removed my 3060 Ti to evaluate an older ATI HD4550. It functioned properly, and after installing the official AMD drivers from that source and restarting, it ran at 1080p. This also triggered Catalyst Control Center, which wouldn’t launch after installation (the message about unconfigurable settings).
I experienced an overscan problem with a black border around the display, so I experimented by unplugging and plugging the HDMI cable in again. After several tries, the display stopped working entirely. When I pressed the power button once (without holding it), the PC shut down instantly—even though Windows was running.
After replacing the drives (swapping 970 to 670P and vice versa), the system booted into BIOS and reported no bootable drives. I then created a Windows installation USB and tried booting from it.
The startup repair gave me the result shown in the attached image. Using the command prompt, I checked for dead drives or NVMe slots, but they weren’t showing up as expected. The actual installer worked too—first with the Windows upgrade option, then with the installer itself. On the custom setup, the drives appeared again, even though they weren’t recognized as bootable.
My BIOS didn’t detect them, but they were present. I’m looking for advice on how to recover my files from the hard drive, if possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
