Windows fails to finish updating entirely.
each time I refresh my PC it freezes at 32% and this has lasted for a few hours so I’m looking for guidance. I’m using Windows 10 Pro (by the way, I usually see a couple of BSODs before it finishes and the stop message says driver_power_state_failure). What should I do?
It mentions they couldn’t complete the update and reversing the changes, but it took about an hour.
Make sure all drivers are current—audio, graphics, chipset, printer, keyboard, mouse, etc. Pinpointing the problem is tough without more info. However, the BSOD shows the system attempted to switch power modes and a device can't handle it, causing the whole system to crash and preventing recovery.
Windows occasionally releases updates that may cause issues. It could be due to installation problems or unexpected crashes during startup. These are uncommon but can cause concern. I experienced one recently with my work PC. You might try forcing a shutdown, restarting, and then performing a startup repair to fix the update. If that doesn’t work, a full installation repair can undo the issue. Give it another try later.
I attempted to power off the device, but it didn’t work. For startup repair, which buttons should I press?
You weren't able to shut it down? Press the power button for at least three seconds. The startup repair feature appears when you hold F11. If that doesn't work, boot into your Windows installer and choose it there. The system will ask for repair options when the shutdown fails.
