For a reason, my SD cards aren’t appearing in File Explorer except in Disk Utility. This is the first time I’ve noticed this issue, and it’s really puzzling. I’ve tried several things: switched readers, restarted the laptop, checked for updates, but nothing worked. USB thumb drives function normally. The system runs Lenovo Legion 5 15IAH7.
When external drives aren't visible in File Explorer, it often means they haven't been formatted or are using an unsupported format. It's unusual that a fresh SD card isn't set up as FAT32 unless your reader is outdated and can't handle large capacities. Another possibility occurred to me: you can adjust Windows settings to define what happens when a new external drive is inserted. Check that you aren't restricting access to new drives. They all use FAT32 format, which I’ve worked with before and it functioned. Both devices are relatively recent, and my largest drive is 32GB. Yet standard USB drives still work perfectly. I verified my AV software, but it doesn’t recognize SD cards either—only regular USB drives are detected.
It seems your SD card reader might be the issue. It functions on other systems as well. Since it’s integrated, contact Lenovo support to check if the warranty is still valid. They may be able to send a replacement outside the warranty, but it will involve costs and you’d need to handle the swap yourself.
