I don't have personal preferences, but I can suggest options based on common needs. What do you require?

Do you possess important information that you can't afford to lose? Defender is merely acceptable, but it's tough to decide what to do without ignoring a file or scanning a particular zone, since Microsoft attempted to make it extremely robust. It's decent, but I’d definitely prefer something more efficient (especially for infection prevention) if I had valuable data—either emotional or financially valuable.

I understand your concern, but I’m not sure about the benefits of Bitdefender Free. What are your thoughts on it?

Not as strong as Kaspersky Free. I’d hold off on using AVG/Avast until both developers merge into one team. Almost any zero-day update will shake things up, so having Kaspersky’s cloud network even in the free version helps with quicker responses. Your biggest concerns will be trackers and spyware. SUPERAntiSpyware Free is the top choice for that. You’ll notice the difference after your first scan with it.

Most antivirus software relies on the same or comparable sources, meaning they generally share the same virus data and offer similar protection. The key variation lies in their handling of threats. Based on my observations, Windows Defender tends to be the least disruptive and most effectively implemented for Windows systems. I recommend also using Malwarebytes for additional system scans. While both programs cover most threats, switching from Windows Defender to another free antivirus isn’t necessary unless you have specific concerns about its features.

I suggest Kaspersky, Malwarebytes, and commonsense.bat. You'll need to download the batch script for CS.bat, but it's worth the effort.

I actually managed to block 5 network attacks using Kaspersky Internet Security. However, I did remove it once because of some suspicious activities in Russia.

I rely solely on malware samples and Bitdefender for verification.

I remember using mbam and Hitman Pro once to eliminate a harmful virus, for sure. Bitdefender is also excellent.
