Hello everyone. I’ve encountered an unusual issue where my PC stops working properly. When I reach the Windows login screen, the video signal disappears, but the startup sounds remain. Initially, I attempted a full reinstall of Windows, reached the setup stage, and the same problem persisted. The setup and BIOS display were normal. Then I replaced the video card, but the issue continued. I removed the card and connected it directly via HDMI to my TV, still getting no display. I also tried removing the motherboard battery and using a screwdriver to force restart the CMOS. Nothing resolved the problem. The most puzzling part is that my TV shows an icon next to an input when it gets a signal, but after a Windows startup (without a display), the icon appears and disappears at a steady pace. Any suggestions? I plan to test RAM tomorrow, and if that fails, I’ll likely need to replace the motherboard.

You can share and join Bios, but only Windows appears to work. Poor drivers might cause issues, and updates could install new GPU drivers that replace your existing ones. You can try booting in safe mode.

Share your mobile device and CPU information. If you have an integrated graphics card, connecting the cable isn't enough—you need to configure BIOS, enable it, and set it as the preferred display. Provide your TV model. Mention any additional displays connected during Windows installation; use a different one if possible. This seems related to resolution or refresh rate problems, as the TV struggles with the content. If you're installing using an existing Windows account with a high-resolution setting, such as starting at 4K on a 1080p TV, this could occur. For the easiest fix, try using a new HDMI cable.

Bios screen works properly. It stops showing only when the system is supposed to switch to Windows. I searched for instructions on booting Windows 11 in safe mode but found them only from within Windows. Additionally, after a full clean install—removing all partitions and creating new ones—I still don’t think that would eliminate faulty drivers.

I don’t have all the details, but I think the mobo is an Asus Rog Strix Z90E Gaming. My TV is a Sony X930e. When connected directly, I turned on igpu via bios but it didn’t work, even though the video card was still present. I’m not sure if that’s why. Also, my TV is the same one I’ve used for years with the same PC and it’s a 4K model, so resolution might not be the problem. I considered switching the HDMI cable, but I don’t know if a bad cable would affect bios or Windows. I’ll test the cable after work today and let you know. I’ll also check my exact CPU.

I forgot to mention that I also tested video cards in the second PCIe slot, and the issue continued. I’ll attempt using the HDMI cable and testing RAM afterward today and will update you.

I switched the HDMI cables and it now works, which makes me feel a bit foolish. But this brings up another issue: why does the HDMI cable show BIOS details while Windows doesn't? I wasn't expecting that to happen.

The HDMI cable's speed rating matches your monitor's vertical refresh rate. Adjusting drivers to 144hz allows the monitor to function properly, but the cable isn't rated for 2.2. It will still show Post & Bios at 60hz, though it may not display anything on Windows.

Currently, HDMI 2.2 and DP 1.4 are the required specifications; anything older should be disregarded.
