Windows Booting Issues
Windows Booting Issues
Hello, I recently upgraded my motherboards to an Asus Maximus Code Z390. I have two 1TB WD Blue M.2 drives—one is my Windows Boot Drive and the other is mostly empty (I use it for recording OBS videos, but it doesn’t matter). When I start Windows, sometimes the login screen appears and the computer freezes completely. It doesn’t crash or restart; it just hangs unresponsive. Other times the boot device isn’t detected, and I’m asked to install a valid boot source. Sometimes Windows boots into Safe Mode, but reinstalling from there causes issues around the middle of the process. I also moved my RAM sticks to different slots and still face the same problems. Both drives worked fine on my Asus Prime board earlier today, so I’m unsure what’s happening now. Thanks for your help. Edited March 2, 2023 by SterfryGamer More information
You reinstalled Windows, not just mounted the OS drive. Jumping Boards was not a feature of the OS.
I didn’t reinstall Windows, I have apps on my boot disk that I want to retain but can simply re-download—it’s fine if they get lost. Previously, I’ve switched between different motherboards using the same drive without problems. When I try to reinstall via Safe Mode, it just freezes.
I’m glad many people replied to my post. It seems I might have resolved the problem without needing a full Windows reinstall. I updated the BIOS as a final step before restarting, and I’ve successfully logged in. My computer is now running smoothly for about 20 minutes without freezing or crashing. Thanks again for your support!
